What if the fridge quits working...

One question has been asked quite often is “what is going to happen if our fridge stops working?”

Below is our guideline based on the principle of “We care/share as if it is our home together”. It is a common-sense approach that is quite similar to the case when we have a fridge broken in our own home, with a few specific notes that apply to renting-situation.

Imagine what would happen if our own home fridge broke down all of a sudden? We will call either contractor of appliance fix/repair business, or go ahead to buy/order a new one. It is reasonable to expect this may last anywhere from 1 or 2 days up to 2 weeks (If ordering a new one is out of stock). Naturally, you will find out a way to handle the food situation on your own depending on how long it takes and your personal/family situation.

When renting/sharing a home from us, it goes the same principle except now you may immediately call property management company or landlord/agent if you have a reasonable ground to believe it is due to “Wear and tear”. We will decide to fix or replace it on a case-by-case basis. The whole process may take up to 2 weeks as well.

And it is naturally residents’ sole responsibility to cope with this situation before the issue can be resolved.

It is understandable regardless of whether you are renting or owning, a situation like this could happen. It is just the way of life we all experience. While we will always try our best to get this resolved in a timely manner, you could consider one or a few of the following options:

  • Make a temporary cooler. Ice. Small containers of that which you require (such as camping gears boxes etc with ice to be replaced each day)
  • Buy fresh food with a small amount for one-day consumption, can food, etc.
  • Other ways that work for your own.

In the end, it goes back to our philosophy to “Share homes happily”, when we all treat each other in a way of true “sharing with” instead the mass-culture of “renting from or renting to”, we will make the best  of the time we stay together and to share a happy story ever after!
